This is my new
Wollee Winder.

It is my new Birthday giftie. It was so much fun plying on this that I got crazy and played around with plying. I way overspun this fiber, but I started to back-ply along one single and got this really fun boucle yarn kind of thing happening. I know it's not a new invention, but it's lots of fun!
I've seen the woolee winders but have not tried one, they are not automatic right? (just hoping ;P), but it looks like they wouldnt give you the ridges that you get from the hooks because of the distance apart. Wonder if that would be too heavy for my ashford traveller? hmmmm. Gotta get a jumbo flyer first tho so I can ply more yarn at one time ;P.

ReplyDeleteThanks for leaving a comment on my Fiber Blog. You can check out the WW at their website http://www.thewooleewinder.com/ . They do make them for all models of the Ashford. They are great to ply with because the bobbins hold so much fiber! I love mine. I’m not sure what you mean about automatic. But the good thing is that you don’t have to change the fiber from one hook to another, and yes, it does wind very lovely and evenly.
It was like buying a whole new wheel when I put this on my Ashford. The WW replaces the flyer and bobbin on your old wheel. They are retrofitted for your particular machine and you can always switch back to your original flyer and bobbins. But The bobbins aren’t cheap. They are $30 each. But you can see that there are gears incorporated into each bobbin that fits against the gears in the flyer. These are what makes the “loop” that feeds the fiber onto your bobbin move back and forth evenly along the bobbin spindle for that nice even feed. More than anything the reason I love this is because I don’t have to stop when I finally get into my spinning groove to change hooks.
