First Batts
I brought home a Duncan drum carder. What a fabulously engineered machine.
These are the first batts I ran through it.
On the right is the dyed roving I purchased. The center is a first pass through the drum carder, and on the left is the 2nd pass.
You can't really see how streaked the color variations are in the middle batt, but they are far more blended in the left one. It's a lovely turquoise now from what was a green and blue dyed roving.
Shetland Batts
Shots of my Shetland through the drum carder. The rough looking one is what I was getting out of my old 72 tpi drum carder. The smooth one is what is now coming out of the Duncan. That is one pass of fiber that was combed. I took the little 'nests' and put them through the carder. What a difference!
